Privacy and cookies

What this site stores on your device, what it counts, and how to change your mind.

The short version

The site works fully without optional cookies. Nothing for analytics is set until you choose “Allow analytics”, and “Don’t allow” is remembered.

Two things are counted without identifying anyone: page views (a daily total) and online now (pages that have been open in the last minute or so, using a random value that exists only in the page’s memory and is never stored on your device). Crawlers are ignored. For the first page of a visit, only a category of where the visitor came from is counted (an AI assistant, a search engine, a social site, another website, or direct), never the address of the page they came from.

If you allow analytics, one random cookie is used to count unique visitors. IP addresses and browser details are not stored. If you later choose “Don’t allow”, the cookie is deleted and its record is removed from the server.
